Waltham Forest Pride 2023

29/07/2023 @ 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm

TBA

Waltham Forest Pride takes place on Saturday the 29th July 2023.

Also known as Forest Gate / East London Pride

Waltham Forest Pride are committed to a Pride that is inclusive, diverse, political, antiracist and fun.

Waltham Forest Pride hope to make Pride an annual tradition in Waltham Forest – recently named London Borough of Culture 2019. Waltham Forest Pride will rally and be out, loud and visible. We want to make it clear to all trans, lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, intersex, nonbinary people of all ethnic, faith and cultural backgrounds – “you are welcome”. This one’s for all of us!

There have been various incidences of physical and verbal abuse toward our community here in Waltham Forest – perhaps it has happened to you or someone you know. This is in the context of a soaring number of attacks on lesbian, gay and bisexual people in Britain – a near 80 per cent rise in the past four years. Two in five trans people have experienced a hate crime or incident based on their gender identity in the last 12 months. In response to some local attacks, the LGBTQ+ community of Waltham Forest held a protest against homophobia. And from that, LGBTQ+ residents were keen to organise a Pride event. So here we are! Always remember that Pride is a protest! We are celebrating and we are making ourselves heard. We demand acceptance, and we’re going to get it! Please tell us here what you want, what you need, and what you’d like to bring to this year’s Pride.

This PRIDE should not be a CORPORATE Day/Event. I’m sick of businesses paying lip service to the Law around hate crimes, especially in terms of recruitment, selection, promotion, trans Rights which are Human rights yet many LGBT rights are ignored by businesses. Og yes, the get banner stands & flags etc for “Pride Month but it’s a waste of time d money because in reality little has changed. I’m sick of businesses endorsing d paying towards PRIDE & peddling their wears for profit, whilst not being an equal rights employer. I’m sick of PRIDE London being taken over by Corporations, big business & even Councils who Don’t in reality support LGBTQ+ Individuals & communities every day, not just at PRIDE. PRIDE IS POLITICAL. We are all still fighting to be properly included in Society.
I hope this is not a ticketed event, sold out to those who can access & know about tickets, before those unable to access them even know about it. I hope it’s truly accessible, so often these things aren’t.
